OUR
CHURCH
Temple Baptist Church
On March 8, 1964, a small group of believers decided to organize an Independent Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC. On May 24, 1964, Temple Independent Missionary Baptist Church was formally organized with 27 charter members. At first, church members met in homes and then met in a store building in Midway until the church was built. In July 1964, the church purchased land on the corner of North Ridge Avenue and East 12th Street in Kannapolis, in order to build a church. The groundbreaking for the new building was held on September 11, 1965.
Over the years, the church has had several pastors. Sanford Spry was interim pastor until the first formal pastor, Lloyd Gosnell, was voted in as pastor of the church up until the spring of 1968. In November of 1968, Larry Evans was voted in as pastor. He faithfully pastored the church up until May of 1976. John J. Huntley was the next pastor who served until 1980. Larry Evans returned to pastor the church again up until his death in May of 1987. In November of 1987, Jim Lippard was voted in as pastor and served up until July of 1993. In February of 1994, Pastor Terry L. Deitz was called to be the pastor of the Temple Independent Missionary Baptist Church.
